So what’s it going to be; drama or delight? You’ve heard the horror stories or you’re experiencing it yourself. At this time of mental, physical and emotional transitions in your life, you’re wondering “what happened to my positive attitude?” Dealing with night sweats, mood swings and hot flashes seem to take up all of your time. Your thermostat has gone haywire so you’re either trying to cool off or get warm!
As a boomer woman you understand what is going on but just want some relief. I was talking with my friend Cheryl, a NC lawyer, the other day and she was going on about her menopausal symptoms. I always tell her to think positive and that the symptoms will be more bearable! Scoffing at this simply because she wanted her pity party.
Now, I’m not saying that having a positive attitude will make the menopausal symptoms go away but it will make you more pleasant to be around. Once you know you’re doing all you can to manage your symptoms, you can take the attitude of “this too shall pass,” albeit probably not fast enough for you!
You want to have a positive attitude about all of the discomfort but it’s just too much trouble. You have a closet full of clothes that you can’t wear, a hairstyle that ‘flops’ when you most want to look great and those telltale beads of sweat on your forehead. Even though being a grouch is not your usual style, you can’t seem to help it.
What would be different if you decide to design your life around your menopause rather than resisting it? Designing your life in such a manner is similar to “going with the flow” but with specific intention. Using the tips below will help you to set your intention for a powerful lifestyle transition.
- Commit. Pledge to yourself as well as those you love to powerfully create a life you can love for the next week. Instead of reacting, commit to creating from your heart and soul, out of love rather than fear. Be amazed as the transformation begins.
- Recognize. Embrace the thought that each moment is perfect regardless of its outcome. If you are not pleased with the outcome, decide to use that moment to learn from and make the appropriate shift.
- Gratitude. Generate gratitude for the things you do have rather than what you don’t. Being grateful helps to keep the mind, body and spirit uplifted. Learn to utilize what you have in your hands and make use of it in the most constructive way.
- Laugh. Keep humor at the forefront of thought, laughing at and with yourself when possible. You may find yourself quite entertaining when you loosen up!
- Believe. You are the architect of your destiny. No one can take your passionate future from you except you! Create your life authentically with intention.
These tips are designed to get you steer your thinking in a more proactive way; to take control of your thoughts. Just in case you’re wondering, yes, I’m also experiencing some of the menopausal symptoms and have found these tips invaluable. So instead of subjecting yourself to what you will be doomed for, make your path by taking the first step with a positive attitude.
