Last week my sisters and niece came to visit along with my grand niece, Cashmere, a 13 year old Pekinese. They drove in from North Carolina so I wanted to surprise them with a full course meal ready and waiting. The greatest surprise of all and my delight was when they asked “what did you use to season the food?” “It is really good!”
Little did they know that I had practiced my own advice on being innovative and creative by choosing seasoning that I thought would make the food delicious and flavorful; I also combined vegetables for taste and appeal.
The power of innovation is a talent that everyone has. Many times as a boomer woman you think you’re not innovative because you’ve been doing the same thing over and over. It might have been innovative when you started but now… As you think about it you realize that you haven’t allowed yourself to tap into your genius for a long time. Your imagination is waiting to be reengaged!
You’re stuck at the sidelines watching ALL the other creative people; wishing you were one of them. Everyone is born creative! You just get to unveil yours and acknowledge yourself for it.
You can create and innovate too. Just think of BASF. Their slogan is “we didn’t make the thing, we just made it better.” Is that not creative? You have the same talent and ability. Look in the mirror, how do you combine your colors, fabrics and accessories. That is uniquely you! Now just imagine instead of combing the colors and fabrics as you have for the past &%$ years, you change them around. How awesome is that!
When you walk out of the room in your new combinations, you have a spring in your step, a song in your heart and a huge smile on your face! Your mind is already starting to imagine new and creative ways to do your daily tasks. At the end of the day, you feel energized and excited at accomplishing your goals for the day. You’re already thinking about tomorrow and the changes you will embrace.
Close friends and family are asking “what’s come over you?” And you simply smile and say “I’m discovering my genius and unveiling my goddess.” Their noise will sound like an orchestra out of tune! Refuse to listen. Listening to others will only cloud your thinking. Follow your own thoughts use your own original ideas. Just because you’re a boomer woman doesn’t mean that you’ve lost the ability to think. In fact, it’s the exact opposite!
What will you do today to unveil your goddess and tap into your genius?
Inez – this is so good and soooo true. Even as a ‘pre boomer’, I find myself stuck in the ‘rut’ of feeling uncreative but you are right, I just need to stop and think and let my own experience show through.
Thank you for reminding me of that!
In answer to your question, today I will LISTEN more carefully to my patients, clients, family–to everyone and everything around me., without judgement; I will listen to every nuance of my favorite music. I’ll listen to the underlying message in your blog, and to my own thoughts as well.
Dr. Nalani,
Love your comment! Listening is key, not only to others BUT to yourself. Be sure to dance to your music today.
Inez
Charly,
It’s never too soon to get stuck in a rut! The beauty of it is to recognize the rut and start your creative juices flowing. From a boomer to a ‘pre boomer’ ~~ start NOW.
