Women over 50 are inclined to spend an inordinate amount of time reliving past experiences. We often focus on the negative, those issues, events, and situations that stick to us even though they were not enjoyable. These past experiences are our point reference and are used to gauge the response and behavior to new information and actions. Women over 50 can almost always look back into our memory and find a correlation for the present. The same old song; nothing new under the sun.
Perhaps there is nothing new under the sun BUT what if we choose to see the same old thing in a different way? What if we see with new eyes, hear with new ears, taste with new buds, feel with new feelings, and smell with a new nose. Well, how do we do that Inez? We get to choose!
Our self-talk is the most important key to opening the door to living our lives of choice. Are you paying attention to your self-talk? Would you allow others to talk to you the way you talk to yourself and still call them ‘friend’? Being your own best friend begins with your self-talk.
Tweet: Speaking loving, gentle and kind words to yourself is the beginning of changing your attitudes and behaviors.
We get to choose EVERYTHING we desire in our life. We get to choose to notice the negatives and focus on the positives. This does not mean that the negatives did not happen, it does mean that we get to look at them differently. Look at them from the mature person you have become and the person you’re becoming. Release those events, issues, and situations that no longer support you in who you are and who you BE.
Women over 50 can change our point of reference by choosing to observe the past from a different place in our mind, body, and spirit where every interaction is lodged. All interactions make an impact on us, whether uplifting or not. We get to choose how long and in what way the interactions affect us.
As we connect/reconnect with our inner SELF, we get to choose to allow ourselves to listen to the whispers that guide us to self-love, self-confidence, healthy self-esteem, self-worth and knowledge of who we BE. This BEingness empowers us to uncover/discover our purpose which when followed leads to exquisite living and bliss.
Our mind is much like that old 45 record we played, singing along with it until the grooves were worn out. Every time we revisit an issue, event or situation (we’re feeling the previous feeling) we cause our neural pathways (mental grooves) to deepen. Frequently we create such deep neural pathways that we begin to feel helpless.
When we could no longer hear the song, we bought a new one! Are you ready to change your mental grooves by buying another way of thinking? “Buying” another way of thinking requires spending time really listening to your self-talk, acknowledging what you’re saying and deciding to throw out the negatives and replace with a positive. Women over 50 you’ve lived long enough to know you are successful, creative, beautiful, lovable and capable. You can reprogram your thinking and self-talk by using your accomplishments to fill the grooves. You can choose to sing a NEW tune!
Whenever the ‘same old song’ comes up, stop for a minute and say, “that used to be me, I’m now positive, loving and capable.” It’s up to you to change. Go here to schedule your complimentary Teach Yourself What To Think Coaching Session with Inez.
